The Meeting That Changed the Response: LHI and Sokoto SEMA

For families like Aisha's in a flood-prone Sokoto village, past disasters meant waiting and desperation.
"Help would come late, or not at all."
Poor coordination left her and her children without shelter or supplies for days. A renewed partnership between Life Helpers Initiative and the Sokoto State Government aims to end that.
At a high-level meeting, leaders from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs pledged to strengthen coordination so that aid, especially vital non-food items, reaches the most vulnerable quickly and with dignity. They committed to relaunch and improve the state's disaster response system.
Speaking for SEMA, Mallam Mustapha emphasised transparent communication and regular stakeholder meetings:
"When we work as one, we save more lives."
For communities on Sokoto's climate frontline, this collaboration is a promise of security: a safety net designed so that no family is left behind when the next disaster strikes.
